idyllic Sunday

I took all day off yesterday to escape from Manhattan and see Williamsburg and Brooklyn too. 

It's was very lovely and quiet there, small boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants by the the river side. I spent couple of hours at an amazing flea market in East River Park, there was so much to explore! Check this site to get more information on Brooklyn flea markets.

You'll also get a great view of Manhattan skyline from there.

neue galerie

If I had to pick my favourite art museum in New York it would be Neue Galerie. The small museum is located in elegant 1914 mansion in Upper East Side and is devoted to 20th century German and Austrian art. I revisited the place yesterday and they had a special exhibition to honor the 150th anniversary of Gustav Klimt birth with an exhibition of his work. 

BARNEY'S NEW YORK

Yesterday I had my first warehouse sale experience and it was Barney's. I heard that people were there waiting in the line already for an hour before the opening! And at 2pm the madness was still going on. There were many really good bargains, for example I found Celine shoes exactly in my size and 75% off but still about 400$, so not worth it.

 It was very funny and seeing all those uberexpensive designer items, which were very exclusive few months ago when they first arrived in the stores, now in huge piles and cardboard boxes! It looked like a huge thrift store!  But still worth a go.

no morning rush

This morning I have little bit more time than usual so I took out my new old-school marble notebook and started a little reasearch what else to do and see in New York. In fact I even planned going to the Empire State Building finally until I turned on the news and found out about the shooting there. uh!

 With all this Yayoi Kusama hype going on, Marc Jacobs also launched a fragrance called DOT.

Shoe-wise I've been more into something with chunkier heels and maybe couple of ankle straps here and there. Last week I found these ankle boots from Zara (on left) and styling-wise I was thinking about going like this example from older Celine collection (on right) with a sheer black sock.

It's such a lively city that I arrive home every night, exhausted, falling on my bed and trying to recall everything I've seen during the day.

/I've been to Bryant Park a couple of times, perfect place to read a book (there's a free reading room, where you can borrow books) and sunbathe./

/Huge Whole Foods Market is right next to Union Square Park, so go and have a take-away and enjoy it in the park together with squirrels and sparrows./

Seems like 83-year old japanes arist Yayoi Kusama is taking over New York, she's everywhere! Retroperspective at Whitney Museum, posters in subway, construction site on 14th Street covered in Yellow Trees artwork, installation at Hudson River Park,  the entire Louis Vuitton 5th avenue covered in polka dots and windows featuring the collaboration with the artist.

Chobani Soho / Yogurt Creations

Ok, I must be quite obsessed with yogurt when I dedicate a whole blog post on it.

Having a cup of greek yogurt is becoming a part of my morning ritual so you can imagine how excited I was to hear that Chobani opened a yogurt bar in Soho.

Basically you will get a bowl of plain greek yogurt with some toppings, but they have some really interesting combinations in their Mediterrianean-inspired menu. For example fig + walnuts, pistachio + chocolate and toasted coconut + pineapple, also savory ones with olive oil and rock salt.

I'll definitely go back there and also try out some of those combinations at home.

 After being there, yogurt with just plain muesli sounds way too boring.

I had the Blueberry + Power: blueberries, chia seeds, hemp, walnuts and agave syrup.

The store itself looks very nice and stylish as well.

Red Velvet

I thought my first ever (and probably the last) cupcake was worth documenting. I got mine from Eleni's New York in Chealsea Market.

 Well, it was good, but I think I still will rather stick to brownies from Fat Witch Bakery next door.

It's the time of the year again and my sis Tuuli sent me this postcard earlier today. 

It looks as same sweet as my sweet sixteen card from the last year but let's see what the new year brings!

I've been discovering a lot of independent book stores around here and of them, McNally Jackson, also had a nice store café. They're located in SoHo, 52 Prince Street.

And people playing chess at Starbucks, New York definitely keeps surprising me.

New York City

arrived here last night! and it's  hot and amusing.

 One thing I've learned by the end of the first day here is that water and ice coffee are essential to survive this heat and rush.

 Two more weeks to go!

I had totally forgotten about the long burgundy skirt that Tuuli received from American Apparel a while ago. Now I found it from the bottom of my closest and it's probably the most comfiest piece of clothing to wander in.
