Collaboration with Björn

Recently I teamed up with talented car designer and artist Björn. Besides designing cars in Germany he does very unique paintings using his special tape-painting technique. For the latest work he was inspired by my ear cuffs  in big metropolitan cities and the girl in the picture is wearing the one with pearls. The painting is currently exhibited in Berlin, can't wait to see it in person!

Keep an eye on Björn's work over here

A painting inspired from Anni Jurgenson Jewellery. 2014. 150x150 cm. Exhibited in JÄÄ-ÄÄR Berlin.

New York pays tribute to Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta, the Dominican-born fashion designer who spent more than 50 years dressing royalty, Hollywood celebrities and U.S. first ladies, has died at the aged of 82 after a long battle with cancer.

My favourite quotes by Oscar de la Renta
"I always say: To be well dressed you must be well naked."
"The great thing about fashion is that it always looks forward."
“The qualities I most admire in women are confidence and kindness.”
“Walk like you have three men walking behind you.”

Situation NY . it's pink

When you're wandering around Soho, go and escape to the pink and vibrating world for ten minutes and forget about everything else outside.

Situation NY
October 4 – November 21, 2014
An installation by Jana Winderen and Marc Fornes at Storefront for Art and Architecture gallery, 97 Kenmare Street

The installation is a vibrating sound experiment that aims to transform the architecture into animated sensible form. Conceived as a sound object that absorbs and contrasts the site specificity of the Storefront Gallery with abstract, spatial, formal and acoustic variations and compositions, Situation NY raises questions about context, sensorial readings, estrangement and the uncanny tangentially resonating with contemporary debates around the ontology of objects.

New York, work mode back on

Nights in a dreamy hotel were just a 2-days fun. Now back to the model apartment and daily casting-routine!

jet lags are good for one reason only - seeing sun rise.

Save the date: 6 November

Alexander Wang x H&M kollektsioon tuleb üle maailma valitud poodidesse müügile 6.novembril, nii ka Eestisse Tallinna Postimaja esinduskauplusesse.  5. novembril toimub ekslusiivne pre-shopping üritus, kus eeldavasti on rahulikum ja palju vähem rahvast, kui päris avapäeval. Juhised, kuidas sellele üritusele pileteid võita, leiab ajakirja MOOD värske novembrinumbri vahelt.

Here are my favourite picks from the collaboration: mesh sweaters, re-worked Freja boots and wang grey sweatshirt.

I also loved all the sport bras in the collection, especially the first one on the top.

Conversation with Alexander Wang

In the morning before the Alexander Wang x H&M launch party I had a chance to listen to Alexander Wang press conference moderated by US Vogue digital editor Sally Singer. Later on, Margareta van den Bosch, the H&M creative advisor, and formally head of design for H&M for 30 years, joined in too.
It's amazing how after hearing people talking about their work, it really comes to life and makes much more sense. It's no secret that at first I wasn't so impressed of what I saw from the very first lookbook pictures. It looked way too sporty, over the top and exaggerated with big logos. I love how Susie from StyleBubble put it: Logos flying all over your chest, thighs and legs are both tongue in cheek references to youth-ridden logomania and yesteryear sportswear but also an assertion on Wang’s part that his brand had come of age. Wang said his initial idea was "sports at night": gym clothes which you can wear when going out:  you dance, you move, you sweat.
Wang admitted he don't do any sports but wears sports clothes simply because it's comfortable. Surprisingly many of the items are made in Italy and Wang emphasised how important is the quality, especially when it comes to performance wear. For example when it says "waterproof", it's really water proof not just water resistant.

A Moveable Feast. Art Deco Fashion Design from Alexandre Vassiliev's Collection

Once again KUMU (Art Museum of Estonia) has came up with a really good exhibition, this one must be my favourite after the show of Irving Penn's photographs last year.

The exhibition based on the collection of Alexandre Vassiliev (1958), a fashion historian, interior designer and scenographer well known in Europe, focuses on the decade of spiritual and corporal liberation that followed World War I. The exhibition is comprised of 80 costumes and more than 200 accessories, as well as photos and paintings, all illustrating the development of European fashion in the inter-war period (1918–1939), when Art Deco was the dominant style.

Here's just a small preview, the exhibit has so much more to offer: breathtaking dress, dazzling jewels, witty accessories, paintings, movies from the era etc
Be sure to get there before it closes on January 18.

& other stories NEW YORK

Be ready for an extra long photo post now because I just couldn't hold myself back when I entered the beautiful & other stories first retail store in New York. As it's an H&M’s upmarket sister brand all the H&M guests in New York were invited to take part of a special shopping experience before the store opened to public on Friday.
Everything was so beautifully colour- and style wise arranged. Right next to the clothing you'll find beauty and accessories suggestions. Empty spaces are filled with fresh flowers and inspiring photos from &other stories shoots. A true shopping paradise!
It's all about details...and stories!
Shop online here, free shipping and returns until October 31!
The store is located in Soho with entrances on 146 Mercer Street and 575 Broadway right next to the Prada store.

Also, Swedish singer Lykke Li has done an amazing co-lab collection with & other stories. The oversized wool blazer, the signature silk shirt, the luxe cigarette pants and the secretly signed jewellery. Refined everyday essentials, for an on-the-go wardrobe.

The beauty section offers a wonderful selection of fresh scented body washes, hand soaps, body mists and scrubs. For some reason the US store didn't have any make-up products but nail polishes.

ALEXANDER WANG x H&M launch party

Yesterday was the long anticipated night! Alexander Wang released his collaboration collection with H&M and he did it in a big way! About one thousand guest were taken to the Armory on the Hudson— an indoor track and field space in Harlem. What would had been a more perfect location for the sport infused collection!
Branded foam boxing gloves, buckets of beer and pop corn kept everyone busy (taking selfies for instagram) until the show started.

See more photos below. I'll be talking more about the collection and press conference in the next post.

"red carpet" in Wang style, with black leather punching bags.
Wearing a men's mesh sweater form the collection

And then the lights went off and out of nowhere (actually from the ceiling) appeared Parkour guys who made an impressive performance complete with trampolines, ramps and rope propellers. The collection was all about "urban survival" after all.
But that was just the opening act. The actual show was still to come.
A moment later the models who all looked as fit as they could be athletes took over the track through a smoke-filled door.  With Natasha Poly opening and Karlie Kloss closing the show, Wang had a truly powerful model army.
The looks were accessorised with plenty of sporty objects, including boxing gloves, hockey sticks, catcher's masks, footballs and goggles. Models' strong walk, energising music and lighting sure made everything look very desirable, proved by the crowd that bolted to the pop-up shop seconds after show was finished. And as an icing on the cake, Wang did his signature run around the stadium as cannons shot confetti into the air,

Right after the show an exclusive pre-shopping pop-up store was opened and you can imagine it was worse than any other sale you have ever attended. Locker-room looking store was quickly filled with crowds grabbing everything from the shelves and racks. But I guess it's still better than queueing outside an H&M store 5 am in the morning when the collection comes available.

And what did actually get people talking? Two words, Missy Elliott. Even me who doesn't listen to hip-hop got bit carried away because it was something we used to dance to when I was little.. Get Ur Freak On!

and what did we learn... That Alexander Wang knows how to make people love him and have a good time. And that he's quickly becoming a lifestyle brand that people know globally as a household name.

New York with Alexander Wang and H&M

Last night I arrived in amazing Mondrian Soho hotel in New York in order to celebrate the launch of Alexander Wang and H&M collaboration. The tight packed schedule includes a press conference with Wang, a shopping event and of course a show and party in the evening. Check back later for more updates!

Invitation to tonight's party doesn't give up much but I am sure we can expect some amazing and definitely sport-related.

I am not saying beautiful but "very New York" view from the hotel room... I hope this grey and rainy   weather will be gone asap!
