Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life at New York Botanical Garden

Last weekend was perfect for a little day-trip out of Manhattan - to Bronx. My destination was New York Botanical Garden and Frida Kahlo Art, Garden, Life. exhibition to be more specific. After an hour long train ride I found myself in sunny and hot Mexico City, surrounded by sombreros, traditional music, margaritas and tacos. NYBG had done a great job creating a specific atmosphere to go with Frida's paintings and her appreciation for the beauty and variety of the natural world, as evidenced by the complex use of plant imagery in her artwork.

Besides more than a dozen paintings exhibited, NYBG also reimagined Frida Kahlo and Diego Riviera's lifelong home and studio in Mexico City - Casa Azul (aka blue house). How amazing are those vibrant hues accompanied by sunflowers and cacti...Makes me want to take a actual trip to Mexico City right now.
